You can file electronically using FAFSA on the Web or complete a paper FAFSA. There is no charge for submitting this form. The way you submit your FAFSA does not affect the funding you receive.

FAFSA on the Web

Filing via FAFSA on the Web (in English or Spanish) is the fastest and easiest method of applying and offers advantages:

• Online chat with a customer service representative.
• Built-in error detectors that reduce the number of rejected applications.
• Verification that the application was transmitted successfully.
• Your application processed in three to five days, compared to two to four weeks with the paper FAFSA.

To start the process visit FAFSA on the Web and select Before Beginning a FAFSA. You will be guided step-by-step through the preliminary application process:

• Gather necessary documentation.
• Print a FAFSA on the Web Worksheet.
• Apply for a PIN.
• Check your eligibility for federal student aid.
• Note important deadlines.

Paper FAFSA

You can get a paper FAFSA (in English or Spanish) from:

• Your local library
• Your high school
• College or career school you plan to attend

Complete the paper FAFSA, make a copy for your records, and mail it in the pre-addressed envelope included in your FAFSA packet. Your FAFSA will be processed in two to four weeks.
