I recently upgraded to IE7 and I receive a security warning when I try to download the Upromise TurboSaver. What should I do?

When installing the Upromise TurboSaver for the first time, you may get a warning from one of a number of software products (firewalls, spyware, IE7, etc.) that asks if you want to allow the software to be installed. The choices presented to the user are often something similar to allow once, never allow, or allow always. We suggest you choose 'allow always' or an equivalent action. Please see your product's Users Guide for further information on this issue.

I upgraded to IE7 and every time I try to access participating Upromise retailers through the Upromise TurboSaver I get a security warning. What should I do?

There are many products designed to limit the accessibility of your computer to outside sites - Firewalls, anti-ad software, spyware programs and more. The Upromise TurboSaver's purpose is to check the site you are visiting against our list of participating merchant sites in order to help you access available savings even if you forget to start your shopping at upromise.com. You may need to add upromise.com to your software's exceptions list. Please see your product's Users guide for further information on how to do this.

The Upromise TurboSaver does not appear on my browser, what should I do?

There are a couple of reasons you may not be seeing the toolbar with TurboSaver. If you are in Hidden Mode you will not see a toolbar. To switch to full mode and see the toolbar, click on the Upromise icon (at the top or very bottom of your screen) and choose to "Switch to Full Mode". For information about Full and Hidden Modes (and switching in-between) visit http://www.upromise.com/member/turbosaver/modes.do.

If you still do not see a toolbar and are in Full Mode, you may need to alter a configuration under Internet Explorer and Firefox that allows you to view the Upromise TurboSaver on your browser.

To do this, try one or all of the following:

For Internet Explorer:

  • On the top menu of the browser, click on "View". Choose "Toolbars" and make sure that "Upromise IE TurboSaver" is checked. If it is checked, try un-checking it then see if the Toolbar appears.
  • On the top menu of the browser, click on "View". Choose "Toolbars" and uncheck "Lock the Toolbars". This allows you to now select the dividers in the browser between various toolbars, and resize the entire toolbar vertically to make the toolbar selections appear. You can then arrange them as desired.

For Firefox:

  • Choose "Toolbars" from the View menu. This will open a list of toolbars installed on your system. Make sure that "Upromise TurboSaver for Firefox" is checked.

Note that resizing the entire browser window allows you to see all TurboSaver options and rearrange them as you want.

If this doesn't work, then let's make sure you have enabled third-party browser extensions.

  • On the top menu of the browser, click on "Tools". Choose "Internet Options" & select Advanced. Please make sure that "Enable third-party browser extensions*" option is checked as shown in the picture below.
FAQ-ie options

If the box isn't checked then check the box & restart the Internet Explorer.

  • Next, check to see if it's been added to the toolbars visible.

On the top menu of the browser, click on "View". Choose "Toolbars" & check status of "Upromise IE TurboSaver". If there is a check next to "Lock the toolbars" you will need to select that first to uncheck it, then you'll be able to choose the Upromise IE TurboSaver.

FAQ-ie enable

If the Upromise IE TurboSaver is there but grayed out, you can enable it by visiting "Manage Add-ons" under "Tools", as shown in the pictures below. Click on all of the Upromise IE TurboSaver instances (one by one if necessary) and then you will be able to select "Enable". Click OK & you will start seeing the Upromise toolbar on your browser.

FAQ-ie add ons

If there is more than one Upromise member using the same computer, can we use multiple Upromise TurboSavers on one computer?

It depends. The TurboSaver was not built to support multiple users on the same web browser. However, if you use two different web browsers on your computer (i.e., if you use Internet Explorer and your husband uses Mozilla Firefox) then you could each install TurboSaver on your preferred browser. That said, as long as the two of you are using the same Upromise account, you only need one TurboSaver associated with that account.

Is Upromise TurboSaver compatible with the Google Toolbar?

The Upromise TurboSaver can easily be used in conjunction with the Google toolbar. We have not had any reports of a performance drop from using both toolbars together. Do keep in mind, however, that you can search Google with the Upromise TurboSaver in Full Mode and may not need both.

My system is asking me to allow an Automatic Update of the Upromise TurboSaver. What should I do?

You should allow it to update the software. Periodically we update the Upromise TurboSaver to help you find more ways to save and/or to fix bugs.
