What is 128-bit encryption?
To enroll in Upromise or to log in to your Upromise account, you must use a web browser that supports 128-bit SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption. SSL is a method of securing data transmitted over the Internet. 128-bit SSL is the industry standard for financial transactions and is the highest-level of encryption generally available today.
How do I tell if my browser supports 128-bit encryption?
128-bit encryption is a standard feature of most current browsers, including Microsoft Internet Explorer 6+. To check the level of encryption supported by your browser, please follow the steps below:

What are the Upromise website's system requirements?

How often is your site updated?
The Upromise site is updated on an ongoing basis. In order to take full advantage of your Upromise membership, you should visit the site periodically for information about your Upromise account, new contributing companies, special offers, relevant news, and updated content.

Why does Upromise use cookies?
Our web servers place and read "cookies" on our site's visitors' computers for a variety of purposes. Cookies are small data files that are stored on an Internet user's computer by a web server. One important use of cookies is to validate your identity while you are logged in to the Upromise site. Consequently, if your browser does not accept session cookies, you will be unable to enroll or log in to our service. You will, however, be able to browse our site as a visitor. The information Upromise collects from cookies and web server logs is used to administer the web service and customize information you receive when visiting our site. Your site seems slow. Is there a problem?
The Upromise site has been developed to load and operate at optimal speed. This speed will vary depending on your specific type of connection to the Internet, as well as the amount of traffic coming to our site and generally on the Internet at that time. During high-traffic times, information moves more slowly. If you are experiencing difficulties, try visiting our site at a different time of the day.
I forgot my password. What should I do?
If you forgot your password, you have two options for accessing your account:
Option 1: Tell us your username, phone number, and information about a credit/debit card or grocery card that you registered with Upromise. Then provide the correct response to the security question that you entered during enrollment and you will have immediate access to your account. Upon accessing your account, you will be prompted to update your password and confirm your current email address.
Option 2: Tell us your username and registered email address. Then provide the correct response to the security question that you entered during enrollment and we will email a temporary password to your registered email address. Once you receive this email, return to the Upromise website and log in. After you log in with this temporary password, you will be prompted to create a new password.
What is a username?
Your username, which you have chosen yourself, is the name you enter each time you log in to your Upromise account. This, combined with your password, is your unique access code to your Upromise account.
I forgot my username. What should I do?
If you forgot your username, you can also try to log in to your account by entering the email address that you registered with Upromise in the "Username" field on the login screen. If you are still not able to login, you have two options for requesting your username:
Option 1: Tell us your phone number and information about a credit/debit card or grocery card that you registered with Upromise. We will then display your username on the screen.
Option 2: Tell us your registered email address and we will email your username to your registered email address. You will receive an email with your username within a few minutes. Once you receive this message, return to the Upromise website and log in.
I forgot my username and password. What should I do?
If you forgot both your username and password, first request your username. Once you have your Upromise username you can then request a password.
I'm having trouble with my username and password. I'm locked out - what should I do?
Your account will be locked whenever you exceed the maximum number of unsuccessful log in attempts. This policy is designed to protect your personal account from being accessed by any unauthorized party.
If you are locked out of your account, follow these steps to request a temporary password:you will need to reset your password.

What should I do with the messages I receive in my Upromise account?
First review those messages for any critical information, and then perform any necessary actions that are contained in them.
How do I edit my name in my Profile?
If you have legally changed your name, typed your name incorrectly (e.g., you typed "Smiht", but it should be "Smith") or you have entered your child's name as the account owner and your own as beneficiary, please Contact Us to edit it.
How do I change information about a future college student?
Simply go to the Students area of your Upromise account to update any information about a future college student.
Can I withdraw company contributions from my Upromise account without transferring them to a savings plan, and if so, how?
You can withdraw your Upromise contributions at any time during your membership. To withdraw company contributions from your Upromise account, submit a letter in writing to Upromise requesting a withdrawal from your Upromise account. The letter must state your full name and exact amount that you would like to withdraw, up to total amount available in your account, pending contributions are not eligible for withdrawal.
For the protection of our members, we require that your letter either be notarized or contain a Signature Guarantee if the withdrawal request is in excess of $200. A Signature Guarantee is a guarantee you can obtain from a financial institution, such as your bank, that your signature is yours and that it is genuine.

Checks are sent once per calendar quarter, so you should typically receive your check within 12 weeks of your request being received.

How do I decline future contributions from a Family & Friends member if they are contributing to my student?
As the member who has opened or plans to open a 529 account for a future college student, go to the Manage Family & Friends section of your Upromise account and select the link to remove the appropriate member.
